Demetriou.

Andy is a corporate counselor and strategic advisor with deep experience in the health care industry.  During his 25 years as a Partner at two of the largest law firms in the world (Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. and Jones Day) he served as a leader of corporate and health care practice groups and has represented entities ranging from developmental businesses to Fortune 50 corporations.

His clients include nonprofit and for profit hospitals and hospital systems, health plans, physician organizations and specialty services providers who rely on his advice in merger and acquisition transactions, network and strategic development, regulatory compliance and corporate governance.  Andy counsels nonprofit organizations outside of the health care industry on governance, transactions and tax compliance issues.  In addition he is called upon by individuals with sophisticated business interests for his legal and practical judgment on investments, charitable activities, succession planning for family enterprises and disputes. 

He has a long record of leadership in the organized bar, including serving as Chair of the American Bar Association Health Law Section in 2007-08 and Chair of the Annual Meeting Task Force of the ABA Section Officers Conference.  He has held committee leadership positions in the American Health Lawyers Association and its predecessor, the American Academy of Health Care Attorneys.  He is a former member of the Board of the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation and served as Chair of the Los Angeles County Delegation to the California State Bar Conference of Delegates.  He is a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Los Angeles County Bar Foundation.

Beyond his professional career, Andy has been engaged in a variety of community activities.  He presently serves as Special Counsel to the Dwight Eisenhower Memorial Commission, a federal body that is charged with establishing a memorial to President Eisenhower in Washington, D.C. to be designed by Frank Gehry.  His other community service includes Chief of Protocol for the Aquatic Sports in the XXIII Olympic Games (1984), a member of the Board of Directors and Board of Governors of the UCLA Foundation, membership on the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Health Care Committee, member of the Executive Committee of the Junior Statesman Foundation of America and an officer of the St. Sophia Foundation, which supports the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Los Angeles.  He has provided  pro bono legal services to many community organizations, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, International Trade Education Programs, Inc., Texas Educational Theatre Association, Lineage Dance Company and the Axios Foundation for Worthiness, the Eisenhower Institute and the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra.    

Andy has been recognized by several legal publications, including Best Lawyers in America, (Corporate, M&A and Health Care listings), Chambers USA Guide to Leading Lawyers (Health Care), Nightingale's Health Care Law News (Outstanding Health Care Transaction Lawyer (2003)), Martindale Hubbell (AV Rating) and California Super Lawyers (2003 to present).

Andy is a nationally recognized author and speaker on topics including legal issues affecting the health care industry, corporate transactions, corporate governance, corporate compliance, legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.  He has made presentations at nearly 100 conferences sponsored by organizations such as the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association, California Continuing Education of the Bar, the Colorado Bar Association, the New Mexico State Bar, the Texas State Bar, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, Practicing Law Institute and the California Society of Association Executives.  His legal writings have appeared in publications of the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association, the Bureau of National Affairs, American Lawyer Media and the Los Angeles County Bar.
